Summer in the City found!

I just love the versatility of fabric charm packs!  I have several from Moda, but I was searching for the Urban Chiks, Summer in the City set…as this fabric is some of my absolute favorite!  The bright colors, the birdies, the flowers…love, love, love!  I searched high and low and came up empty!  Then, one day I found a seller on ebay who had some and I snatched up 8 of them.  Now……what was I going to make with them??  dsc04999.jpg

I decided that Lilyana needed a Spring stroller blanket and I needed practice at patchwork and quilting!  I have only dabbled in the random patchwork scarf and I’m excited to give the blanket a go!  So far, I’ve played it safe and pieced together the squares at random…no fancy shapes or cuts…

and now I am in the process of figuring out how the border will be pieced in (did I mention that I have never done a quilt before?? Argh!! It’s a little confusing scary for me still…)

So, I guess the next step is to get that border figured out, plan my backing material, layer on some batting, quilt it and edge it….?  Yikes!

I did find a helpful tutorial at Cranberry Blossom that I hope to use!

Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?  Any quilting experts out there that want to add in a little something to make this easier for me?  LOL!  I’m having fun experimenting, but I am no professional, that’s for sure!

  1. You’ve done the hard and the fun part of the quilt. It looks great. Your next steps are right in place. I use LOTS of safety pins to pin the front and back together so the batting and pieces stay together.

  2. Oooh, good idea! Something I wouldn’t have thought of…I probably would have thought of it AFTER the fact!! Thanks!

  3. Have you had a chance to finish this quilt? I don’t think I’ve missed that post. I really love the colours. I’ve never worked with charm packs but they must be great!
