Sproutin’ and Bloomin’
March, 31 08 at 9:09 pm | In Inspiration, Random | 1 CommentTags: chives, dill, gardening, goats milk soap, herbs, lavender, orchids
What a dreary and damp day….will it ever be Spring here again?? So much for doing my hair today since now it’s a frizzy, tangled mess!! I hate rainy weather, it’s by far my least favorite element!
Slowy but surely some of my orchids are coming around, so this makes up for the crappy day! I certainly do not have a green thumb when it comes to orchids, but I love how they look and the blooms last forever so I have a hard time not buying them…

This year I decided I was going to get a head start on my herbs too. I’ve got my pots and they are ready to go!

Last year I planted waaaay too many and never used them all. This years it’s just dill, sweet basil, chives and lavender…only the ones I know I will use. And they are already starting to sprout~~how cute!
The only other thing will be the giganta-sunflowers I’ll plant in the backyard somewhere and that’s the extent of my planting! I have a habit of forgetting what I plant, then things die. I don’t think I’d ever be able to have a vegetable garden, I’d never tend to it!! I give hard-core gardeners credit!
And another thing that deserves huge credit is a little shop on etsy called Pudleduk Soap Co. ! Oh my yumminess! I got these delicious soaps in the mail today…
I could smell them as soon as I opened my mail box! They are made with goats milk and feel fabulous on my dry hands (which as we know, with my germ OCD this is a plus, since I’m constantly washing my hands!). I love em!! Yummy! Be sure to check out their cute little shop!
That’s all for today–a manic Monday (have a happy day anyway)!
Paper Treats
March, 29 08 at 11:17 pm | In Random, Scrapbooking, paper | 1 CommentTags: basketball, chipboard albums, paper, Scrapbooking, UNC
Yay! Today we dusted off the grill and we’re using it tonight! I have missed that thing all winter (I love that I don’t have to cook as much when it’s around!). I tried making a steak using the broiler oven this winter and it was not the same. You know what I mean…that grill taste. Nothing beats it! So, that’s the exciting Saturday night….grilling and basketball. The hubby is beside himself with anticipation of his precious UNC (alma mater) game happening tonight. He can hardly stand it…all the UNC gear is on and he’s poised and ready. Hee hee.
But, onto more exciting stuff….like yummy new paper! I love love love getting new 12 X 12 packages in the mail and today was no exception!
Looky at these beauties…

Yummy, huh?? And I have always loved using these scalloped albums to create fun little books…this stack arrived today, waiting to be transformed…
I can hardly wait! I promised myself that I would clean this stye of a room I call my craft room BEFORE I start on new projects, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to hold out! I did straigten up a little today…so that means I get to make a little card to satisfy this new paper high……maybe a little something-something with that owl paper…be sure to check it out at Lemon Tree Studio! And a good part of the day was spent destashing this pile of scraps!
I I used some of my punches to salvage the scraps…they’ll be heading over to the shop as well….
Well, gotta get that dinner ready! Enjoy the rest of your day and weekend!

Hoo doesn’t love owls?? How can you not love this bird? I was hooked from the day I bought a 3 hinged, gold plated, vintage owl necklace from a thrift shop several years ago. It was love at first sight. I think I got it for like 99 cents—what a bargain!
You can satisfy your owl-y love on Etsy, and the items are endless! Lots and lots of owl goodies! Happy shopping!
After much searching, I came across these super talented, super creative sellers with super cute “owl” goodies! I just had to contact them and feature their items….some of my absolute favorites. I hope you enjoy these hooty-licious items as much as I do!

Lilyana was in boy heaven today as we went on our “power stroll” at the mall with aunt Stephanie and aunt Casey! She was in awe of her younger admirers, Roman & Brooks. She was very content and smiling at her future suitors…she just loves looking at “babies”… lol, since she’s such a big girl now… at 5 months!
We worked off some of that baby fat (right, right!) with a high powered, fast moving, crashing into eachother, stroller derby! We were actually sweating (and Casey never sweats!). Then we went to lunch and ate what we just walked off. If only I could do this every day! My problem is sweets…..sweets, oh sweets. Love love love! I think I need to banish all sugar (except fruits) from my diet…seriously. I may indeed do this! And, I will need support…a sugar cessation support group. Does one exist?
WHAT’S YOUR WEAKNESS??
Onto more fun stuff! I just finished a fabulous bunting for a fabulous seller (from an alchemy bid)… using bits ‘o blue and brown…
I kinda like this on the chandy!! Adds a cute little touch!

So, I hope she enjoys it and gets plenty of use out of it! I sure had fun making it! I have such a gigantic fabric stash. these might be fun to make as personalized banners…
Off to make dinner (Thai shrimp–yum!)—enjoy the day!

Happy Easter from my little Lily!
This pink bunny turns 5 months on Tuesday!
We’ll have to make up a cute & girly Easter basket for her next year…
We hope everyone has a beautiful Sunday!
Are you SURE you want to see this??

This is embarrassing, but someone asks…….”where does your bag land?”. I don’t know if she’s really all that interested in my particular purse issues, but Omigod, where do I begin?? I change purses like I change underwear! And they are all over the place!! It’s NEVER pretty!
So, here’s my usual spot in the kitchen…my bag, baby bag, grocery tote, bag I used the day before….
Here’s where they are supposed to be……organized. But, no..that would be too easy…

Random, random. Purse here, purse there. hanging on my office door. Probably been there since before I gave birth. Probably a day I couldn’t decide which to use, so they never got put away. Seriously.

Another purse collecting corner in the spare bedroom. This pile has not been touched since BEFORE I was pregnant. Note to Casey: See that bag of clutches, shoes, etc? Well, that’s the same bag I brought for you to try with your outfits for that wedding…from a LONG time ago. Yep, believe it…true story.

So, as you can see, I am way more organized in my head. And it’s not like my home is a mess….just some collections. I had a purse obsession for a while there, along with shoes…and we know why that stopped.
Someday it’ll get organized, but in the meantime…I don’t mind things as they are….
Hint, hint…

Oooh, my back!! I have had such upper back and shoulder tension since having my daughter! And that car seat…it weighs a TON! Although I am enjoying her so much at 5 months, I look forward to the day she can walk! LOL!
Sooo…with Mother’s Day coming up, I thought I would nonchalontly throw in a hint or two to the hubby…can you guess what I would like??
I always put his pile of mail on his desk…we’ll see what he says about that little flyer, since it is not addressed to him, hee hee…
I was thinking maybe a full day of pampering….? Or does that sound too spoiled for a mother of only one child?? We’ll see…he may throw it out thinking it’s junk mail and not get the hint.
So, I’ve really been loving this awesome “spring-like” weather we have been having! And, today is the first day of Spring! Lilyana and I have been enjoying some much needed walks outside…I just love it.
In light of Spring, I am ecstatic to announce that I finally got my paphiopedilum “lady slipper” to bloom! This dang orchid has not bloomed in over 2 years and then POOF! Here she is….I’m glad I held onto her, since I usually get impatient and throw them away if they do not bloom for over a year (like ALL of my cattelaya orchids!).
Now I hear it’s supposed to SNOW another 3-7 inches tonight and tomorrow! What?? This seems impossible to me. Enough already! So, I guess me and the Lily will be inside this Friday, crafting away! And Saturday we’ll be on our own as well since the hubster will be in a cave somewhere watching all of the basketball taking place. He is sooo excited LOL!
Have a Happy First Day Of Spring!
Sushi Sunday
March, 17 08 at 1:09 am | In Random, Scrapbooking, Sewing | Leave a CommentTags: alchemy, baby, baby shower, etsy, file folders, onesies, sushi, treasury, wonder under
Mmm, how can anyone NOT love sushi? My hubby traded in an afternoon of beer and basketball downtown for a takeout sushi from Wasabi for me.
Yum! He got what he wanted…I got what I wanted…and I get a night of uninterrupted (i.e. Lilyana & daddy time) crafting! I love Sunday nights!
So this Sunday night was/is being spent putting together these little baby shower invitations for my sister-in-law…

I played with a bunch of color combos and settled on this lime/turquoise/yellow trio…a medley of colors that I would not have ordinarily been drawn to, but I like the end result! I think it’s perfect for a baby boy or girl (she’s having a boy)…not the same ‘ol baby blue and pinks.
Speaking of baby stuff…I finished up a set of burp cloths and 3 onesies for her baby gift…

I’m pretty happy with the onesies…it’s the first time that I have ever used “Wonder Under”…what a fun product! I have lots of ideas brimming (oh great) in my head now for this fantastic and versatile product!

Now she just needs the matching washcloths and a stroller blanket…those are the fun projects…maybe save them for next Sunday–or maybe my friend Casey would like to make the rest for me? Hee hee…just kidding…we’ll have plenty of time for sewing come this summer…wont we, Casey?
………….Oh, this news is exciting (well, to me at least! lol)! I got my first Etsy Alchemy bid accepted this weekend! I didn’t even know this existed on Etsy~~so fun! It was for a huge lot of tags…I finished them up today and will ship them out tomorrow…I hope they get good use out of them! I love browsing through the lists of things people request, it can be addicting. I may even put in a request of my own. I would love for someone to make Lilyana an owl dress for this summer…I have the cutest owl barrettes that need a dress!! We’ll see…
AND (!) I got added onto my first (I think) Etsy Treasury! My Amy Butler File Folders
are featured in this treasury entitled “Tax Time”. Thank you for adding me, “bellafabric”!
Enjoy the rest of what’s left….of the weekend!
I’ve Been Tagged!
March, 13 08 at 11:48 pm | In Random | 3 CommentsTags: random things, tagged
This very sweet gal….April, at Jane Says, “tagged” me to name 7 random things about myself. I had no idea how to do this and she helped me out without making me feel like a total blogger-loser! So, a big THANK YOU to you, April.
So, 7 things about me…
1) I am a GERM-A-PHOB! Not with everything, but with most things. My biggest germaphob problem is with hands. Nothing is more discusting to me than dirty hands…I do not know how anyone can go all day without washing their digits! Ugh! Especially worrisome to me are the following “germ nasties”: gas pump handles, money, shopping cart handles, public bathrooms and the condiments on the tables at restaurants. And this caused some mild trauma the other day: At starbucks, the man making my coffee wiped his sweaty face with his hands and then proceeded to put the lid on my coffee, and rubbed over the mouth opening part over and over again trying to get the lid on tight. I almost fainted. Anyway, I’m probably overdoing it…I do have the driest hands in the midwest thanks to this little “problem” of mine! LOL!
2) I love puppy chow (the peanut butter/chocolate kind, not the dog kind)–yummy! I once ate an entire gallon bag in a day and a half! Yikes!
3) A close friend and I once received a $500 fine at a Dave Matthews Band concert for doing what all the MEN were doing on a secluded lawn….(you can put 2 +2 together here). It was a shameful and horrible event! $500.00!! I still think about that money and all the paper/fabric it could have bought….
4) Becoming a mother has actually stopped me from buying shoes! I haven’t even thought about it and I used to looooove buying new shoes! Oh, and lots of my pre-pregnancy shoes do not even fit me now!
5) I can’t watch scary/gory/violent movies. I close my eyes! I’m a wimp with that stuff..
6) I never wear a jacket in the winter (I hate the bulky feel).
7) I sleep with my cell phone
Very random things, I know! Hee hee!
Enjoy the day!
Underwater Baby
March, 12 08 at 8:16 pm | In Fabric, Sewing | Leave a CommentTags: baby, baby gifts, card making, fish, owls, sassafras lass, Sewing, stamping, underwater
My sister-in-law is having a boy (first one!) in May and I needed to get started on her gift! YAY! Why is making gifts for a new baby so much fun?? I just love it! So, the mom and dad to be are huge fans of fishing…especially the dad…I guess one could say he is OBSESSED with fishing. He is already looking at toddler fishing poles and life vests for him…and he is trying to figure out a way to get a car seat in the boat! LOL!
And the mom-to-be loves bright colors, not those powder blues that are always everywhere…so….here is what I picked out for fabrics:
It’s pretty cute, considering the minimal selection I had for an “underwater” theme. And, it’s all cozy flannels, which I love working with. So…I’m thinking maybe some burp clothes, washcloths, onesies, booties, bibs and maybe a taggie/lovey blanket or 2….I can’t wait to get started!
Oooh and I FINALLY got around to getting these cute Olivia/Oliver and Pals Owl stamps that I have been wanting since last year…I know, I know…they are “old” news to all you stampers out there, but I waited and waited and wish I hadn’t–they are so fun! And cute! I’m still keeping my eyes open for that Sassafras Lass Serendipity Life Is Beautiful “My Dearest” line…love that too!
Have a HOOTY-LICIOUS hump day!
