Picky Eater!!

Does anyone have a dog who you have to BEG to take treats?? Probably not. Well, I do!! Our little Tibetan Terrier, aka Owen, aka Tibetan Terror, is neurotic! Seriously. He gets a raw food diet and is offered dry kibble…and he will usually shun both. He eats like a bird. And, what dog turns down raw yummies like turkey, beef, chicken or lamb?? Oh no..he likes to eat all the things that are not even food. He’s nutso! Just try to lure him with a treat, ya right! He runs the other way. Crazy dog. He’s been this way since we brought him home at 8 weeks old!
And, now at almost 2 years old….things haven’t changed.
So, I spent part of this morning baking him the only treats I know he’ll eat without asking any questions…his Peanut Butter Poppers! They are super simple and quite delish! I wanted to share the recipe…so all your little doggies can enjoy!
Owey’s Organic Peanut Butter Poppers
*2 cups whole wheat organic flour
*1 tbsp. baking powder
*1 cup natural organic peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
*1 cup organic milk
Preheat oven to 375. Combine flour & baking powder.
In another bowl, mix peanut butter & milk, then add to dry
ingredients and mix well. Place dough on a lightly floured
surface and knead. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use
cookie cutter to make shapes. Bake for 20 minutes on greased baking
sheet until lightly brown. Careful…..these can burn easily!
Mhm. Someone came running over to check out the situation! That’s not my hand! LOL!
He can certainly sit pretty when it’s something he thinks he wants!! Stinker!
And he still has the nerve to second guess what I’m giving him!! Ugh!! Neurotic!!

If you try the recipe, let me know how your furry friend likes ‘em!
The rest of the morning was spent getting some custom orders done (which I love doing, by the way!)…some fun photo albums, a patchwork scarf in the works, a slew of Mother’s day cards, baptism invites, a “happy graduation” banner and a few other little tidbits!

I’m also working on some more little goodies for mom for the shop so check back often!
Enjoy your weekend!!

Oh my goodness! What a cutie! Once upon a time I lived with my best friend and I egged her on in buying a tibetan terrier. He is perhaps one of my favorite dogs ever. Such a great and unique personality. He totally recognizes anything you ask him to do, but will just look at you like “I don’t really want to right now”. Classic. Owen is a cutie and seems to have a similar personality.

hi there! thanks. it took me a long time to decide on grey and orange, but i’m really loving it now!
my shop will be ollieandjunebug.etsy.com, but it’s still a WIP. i’m hoping to launch in may. trying to get enough stock finished so i don’t have to cram so much in in-between my 9-5. so, keep an eye out!
are you a part of any of the ning sites? indiepublic or we love etsy or something? oh, and how did you get that etsy banner in your right hand nav?
as for etsy mini, i’ve heard you can’t get it to work if you have a wordpress.com blog. if you host somewhere else and have a wordpress.org blog, i think it’s possible. annoying.

ah, i’ll have to try that. i tried to add a different banner using the text widget but it only showed the text and not the graphic. i’ll have to try again with one of those banners. hopefully it’ll work for me, too! wordpress has been so wonky lately…
ning is a social networking platfrom thingy. there are tons of networks set up on there for crafty people. i’m a part of we love etsy and indiepublic. here’s a link: http://etsylove.ning.com/. i just joined them recently but it seems like a really great way to market so far.

What a cute little puppy. I have never known a dog to be so picky. He is very spoiled because those little cookies sound and look quite yummy…for a doggy anyway. What we do for our pets.

My dog, a Japanese Spitz, is like your dog. She doesn’t eat those
I’ll try your recipe. Hope it would work.

Hi there…Your dog is a cutie! I have a Corgi but she’s not picky at all. Thank you for the doggie snack recipe, I am going to try it soon.

Hi there, what does your vet say about your dog’s appetite? my dog has been picky on occasion… she loves Paul Newman veggie treats (does not like actual veggies, although she is learning to eat a few of them a little bit), and would not eat the chicken ones, go figure… I do not give her whole wheat anything, so while I appreciate the recipe, would have to modify it. Recently, I got some treats and food from K9 cuisine that Cici absolutely has gone nutty for… she barked at me until I gave her the food and the treats… something she has NEVER EVER done before… the Plato treats, Thrive from Honest Kitchen and Instinct no grain dry food… you might try some of those tasty temptations… I also put a treat into her kong, put real peanut butter on top of the whole to cover it up, and she has a lot of fun getting her treat out of the kong… keeps her busy and out of trouble, for five minutes maybe 10…

Okay, I tried your dog treat recipe and Sissy our Corgi loved them! I also shared them with my mom’s dogs and a friend’s dogs, they were a hit with everyone. Thanks again, we will be making them often.

I have 3 picky dogs as well. The only thing that they seem to FINALLY love is the Vets Choice Health extension food. It is organic chicken and very healthy for them.
The treats that they seem to love most are the chicken and sweetpotato happy hips.
I hope this helps you with your issue on your cute doggie. Good luck!
